October 09

Cooler air, shorter days, fall has fallen upon us but not before I led a group of our
bikers up north. Six of us went up to the Black Mesa area. Two of them turned back to
come home after one had a flat tire. We put a plug in it but thought it best to have
someone ride back with that bike. I was asked about the time we would be back as we
left Amarillo. I figured at dusk and if it wasn’t for helping on the flat, it might have still
been daylight. The sun was barely past the horizon, still some light in the horizon when
we rolled back into town. That’s still dusk and not the dark of night to me. I try not to
take a route that will keep the group out past dark for safety reasons as the shorter
sunny days come upon us.
I hope this newsletter will be to each of you by the time at least one event takes
place. We will ride in the West Texas A&M Home Coming Parade Saturday, October
10th for the second year in a row. The plans are to meet at Feldman’s in Canyon at 8:00
AM for breakfast. At 9:00 AM, we will meet in the United Super Market parking lot
next door. At 9:30 AM, we will proceed to the staging area for the parade. Last year,
there were some parade entrants that threw candy out. I plan to do the same this year
unless I get a flat no from someone.
I’m looking forward to Ray Latta becoming the new Chapter Director as this
year gets closer to the end. New blood always brings a new freshness to any group. I
will still be around having fun with all my friends. I don’t want to be feeling guilty for
not being around more often. It’s hard to do some things when where you go most of
the time, there’s no signal to be had. There will be a few more events that the chapter
will participate in like the Veteran’s Day Parade November 7th and possibly the Christ-
mas light parade. It was a blast last year. I have really enjoyed being the director of the
chapter for the past three years. With only three months to go, I’m really wondering
what Mother Nature has in store for the rest of the year. I don’t mind the cold but I do
mind it keeping me off my machine of joy. I do understand that we need the moisture
but I just wish it would do it on my time table. “What, I can wish, can’t I? Till next
month’s newsletter,
