August 09
Wing Ding is behind us for another year, what a time we had, enjoying what
they had laid
out for us. The chapter had 12 bikes there with a few extra people that followed
some of our mem-
bers. I got to see some old friends that do not live close to me but when did
that stop me from mak-
ing a road trip? That is a pretty good excuse to travel if you ask me. As far as
I know, the chapter did-
n’t win anything, I know I didn’t.
Wing Ding will be in Des Moines, Iowa next year. I like it better when it takes
a long day or
more to get to the Wing Ding. That’s when I can rake up some miles and see some
places that I have
never seen before and get lost, oh, I mean see places that I wasn’t planning on
seeing. When did a
Winger ever get lost? I know my GPS was having a hard time navigating Tulsa
which reminds me I
need to upgrade that thing. It wasn’t the directions that were wrong but the
businesses that went out
of business that was sending me on a sight seeing tour. That’s the fun of it
all, isn’t it?
My next trip is off to Sturges, the first time I have been to that one. The
stories you hear and
see on the History Channel make it seem even more adventuresome. I love when I
get volunteered
before I even get to a place and I’m sure it’s not my reputation that proceeds
me. I just have some
really good friends in the world. That’s alright, you know what they say about
pay back. I will write
about that trip in the next newsletter if I make it back.
Bob Whitaker has set up another fun run for the chapter. It will be on August
16th at 2:00 PM
at the north parking lot of the Civic Center. It will cost $10 per bike with the
winner getting half the
pot in some sort of gift. You can ask me about that when you see me. It was
debated as to whether to
have an entry fee but I wanted to see if more people will come out to join in
the fun if the pot is
sweetened. I know some will be on vacations or getting the kids ready for
school. I understand
school starts around the middle of August. Come on out, I’m sure ice-cream will
be involved some-
time.
The chapter had a picnic and cookout the weekend of July 18th. We had a lot of
fun spending
time together. Everyone seemed to really like the location that was picked. Even
some are going to
take their grand kids back to that spot. It really ha a nice few with
facilities.
Betty Sproul wanted to say “Thank You” to the chapter for all the concern about
her son’s hot
air balloon accident in Albuquerque last October. He is making good recovery
from his injuries after
being laid up 7 months. Keith is back at work in North Brunswick, N.J. on light
duty, I believe.
I hope I didn’t forget anything. This is another month that I’m getting the
newsletter our be-
fore I head off again. ‘Till next time.
